Legal Assistance

Legal Aid & Private

Service Description

Help for those dealing with legal issues as a RESPONDENT in Family Court/Domestic Violence/Civil Actions, or, as the ACCUSED in criminal matter/s. Basic advice and information given about the time frame involved, what to do and not to do, possible costs involved, what it means to accept an order without admission of guilt and how this may affect you, what you should prepare and get ready to assist you legal representative, feelings and emotions to expect during the proceedings (such as shocked, confused, angry, hurt, sad, sorry, ashamed, frustrated, etc) and how to deal with them and manage them. The legal process is not easy. It can be trying, stressful, daunting, and confusing. Even for those whom have done the wrong thing - it is a stressful time. It can be a traumatic experience for an innocent person falsely/wrongfully accused. One thing is certain, the wheels of justice turn slowly due to delays, backlogs, and the current climate where almost anything looks to be resolved. Trading a guilty plea for dropping charges just to speed up the process and obtaining a discount is not justice for all - and that is justice denied. The creator of this site thinks this makes the legal system currently work akin to horse-trading. Charges are laid, you plead guilty or not guilty. That is it. You plead not guilty and win one, you do not lose your "one third" discount. In fact, the discount should not exist - it is akin to bribery - or once again - justice not fully being served to a victim simply to expedite proceedings. If you have done nothing wrong, if you did not commit the crime charged with, or the allegations levelled at you, do not EVER concede anything. You cannot tell a Magistrate you are not guilty of a criminal charge and then plead guilty to it "just to speed up the process and get it out of the way" - that is what those facing intervention orders are asked to do every day. By all means, accept responsibility for your actions - but only that.
